In 1987, the Terre Haute Adult Chess Club was started by Wayne Hamilton and Jim Roy. I (Steve Steppe) was recruited to be Tournament Director so the club could host USCF rated tournaments. I took over as Club Director shortly before Jim Roy passed away. After 38 years, I am retiring as Club Director and moving out of town to be near family. The THACC has held its last tournament (November 19, 2025) and as of now, the club has become the Terre Haute Chess Club with a new Club Director, Roger Norris, a certified TD. This website has been replaced with a Facebook page. (See below). Plans are to continue meeting at the Wabash Activity Center at 300 S. 5th St. (5th and Poplar).
