In 1987, the Terre Haute Adult Chess Club was started by Wayne Hamilton and Jim Roy. I (Steve Steppe) was recruited to be Tournament Director so the club could host USCF rated tournaments. I took over as Club Director shortly before Jim Roy passed away. After 38 years, I am retiring as Club Director and moving out of town to be near family. The final two tournaments hosted by the THACC will be October 8 and November 19. At that point, the club will become the Terre Haute Chess Club with a new Club Director, Roger Norris, and this website will be replaced with a Facebook page. Once the Facebook page is up and running, we will link to it here, and this site will soon be retired. Plans are to continue meeting at the Wabash Activity Center at 300 S. 5th St. (5th and Poplar). |
